The Pulley Diameter Analysis of the Belt Conveyor

In the designing of belt conveyor, the correct selection of pulley diameter is of great significance. The conveying belt use conditions improve with the increase of the pulley diameter. However, with the same other conditions, increasing the pulley diameter will correspondingly increase its weight, the transmission ratio,amount and size of the reducer. Brief Introduction of Belt conveyor Sweeper Type

Belt conveyor sweeper is one important part of belt conveyor, there are totally three types of belt conveyor sweeper: carbide belt conveyor sweeper, H type alloy rubber belt conveyor cleaner, P type alloy rubber belt conveyor cleaner.
1.Carbide belt conveyor sweeper
The Carbide belt conveyor sweeper is installed at the head pulley with the texture of scraper adopting carbide alloy. There are generally two types of it: single piece belt conveyor sweeper and double pieces belt conveyor sweeper. It realizes thoroughly material cleaning by changing the pressure beard by the conveying belt from the scraper through adjusting the balancing weight.
2.H type alloy rubber belt conveyor cleaner
It is installed at the head place of the pulley close to the conveying belt, principally applying the rubber elasticity. Meanwhile, the scraper texture is changed to Carbide scraper from rubber. Step Analysis for the Installation Process of Belt Conveyor

There are seven steps in the installation process of belt conveyors, here are some tips analyzed by experts from PK machinery.

1 .Installation of the belt conveyor landing leg and intermediate frame
Please confirm the Centerline by using the theodolite before installation, then according to the centerline to find pile point location of each landing leg. If there is embedded iron, adjustment should be made according to the location of the embedded iron in order to facilitate the installation, each landing leg should be firmly welded with the embedded iron.
2 .Installation of the counterweight device
In this process we need to ensure the parallelism between the two force columns, and meanwhile ensure its verticality. Considering the safety, protective railings shall be immediately installed after finishing the installation of this device.
3 .Installation of the headstock, tailstock and drive device base
Firstly we should verify the install elevation and confirm the centerline. Then pay attention to the sizing block location and its number not more than 5 blocks. The thinner sizing block should be placed among the thicker ones and be firmly welded.
4 .Installation of the roller and carrier roller
Before the installation, we should check the rotary condition of the bearing and repair or change it in time if there is any problems in the rotating.
5 .The Unit Installation
The unit axis deviation is 0.02 mm; the radial error of coupling is 0.05 mm, the Clearance between the half couplings is 3 ~ 5 mm. the levelness and usage of the sizing block should also meet the specification requirements.
6 .The belt installation
The belt installation should be operated by the manufacture or the professional.

Suggestions on Lubricating Points and System of Belt Conveyor

As we all know, regular maintenance and proper maintaining methods is essential in the daily operation of the belt conveyor.  Poor maneuverability would appear if the equipment has been used for long time, therefore we need to clean and lubricate the conveyor. Here our experts share some suggestions on the Lubricating points and methods with you.
  1.Lubricating Points
The lubricating points contains motor bearings, roller bearings, shaft sleeve bearings, bearing, gear reducer, the roller bearing and so on.
Roller is the most commonly used rotating parts of the belt conveyor, its quality and service life has a great influence on the belt conveyor running efficiency and reliability. The roller is equipped with bearing. Due to the gear reducer, its structure is relatively concentrated, with many parts needed lubrication, such as bearing pedestal, bearing gear and the meshing gear. In contrast, the structure of the roller bearing and motor bearings is relatively dispersed, especially the belt conveyor with long conveying distance. Each part is singly equipped with lubricating device.
2.Lubricating system
  •  Manual lubrication system
The manual cleaning separator grease station should be installed in the center of the lubricating system. The distributer should be fixed in the device which needs lubrication, with its installing station convenient for observation and maintenance. Cold rolled seamless steel tube can be generally chosen as to the texture of the lubricating pipeline.
  • Electric lubrication system
The electric lubrication is generally installed in the central part of the electric lubrication system, and usually need to set up special lubricating state with assurance of tidy and clean. The differential pressure switch is generally installed at the end of the main pipe line, behind the switch there should be installed a distributor. The piezometer however is commonly installed near the switch. The requirement for the texture is same as that of the Manual lubrication system.


Do you Know About the Installation and Adjustment of the Pull Cord Switch on the Belt Conveyor?

Do you know about the installation and adjustment of the Pull Cord Switch on the belt conveyor?
Pull Cord Switch is commonly known as "emergency stop switch". When the belt conveyor need downtime, Pull Cord switch action will stop the conveyor. Pull Cord Switch can be divided into manual reset and automatic reset. Automatic reset: after action, it can automatically return to the initial position, may lead to error start. Manual reset: after action, the self-locking device can maintain the operating position, it need to manually reset handle to make its return to the initial position.
Pull Cord Switch should be installed on both sides of the conveyor where has a maintenance channel, installation position should ensure that the maintenance person operates conveniently in the event of an emergency.
1.Pull Cord Switch is fixed on the rack.
2.The distance of the two switches on one side is about 50 m, the two switches are connected by the diameter 4mm of wirerope, elastic should be moderate.
3.To reduce the influence of the weight of wire rope on switches, we install supporting ring on the frame every 3 m to support the steel wire rope.
4.The other end of the rope is in tension spring (with rope buckle), In a way not affecting the normal use, using tightener to pull the rope tension on both sides, and to ensure that tension is balanced on both sides.
(Note: The climbing section of the conveyor, should try to shorten the Switch spacing distance and the pull rope length.)

What are Types Of Belt Conveyor Pulley Surface Coating?

 Belt conveyor pulleys play an important role in belt conveyor, such as transmitting traction for belt conveyor; changing direction of the conveyor belt; increasing the friction etc. Pulley surface coating on one hand,it can protect the conveyor belt from debris hurt ,on the other hand it can increase the friction between the conveyor belt and pulley, ensure normal conveyor belt running direction. 
There are 3 types of surface coating which we commonly used: smooth surface coating, herringbone coating, diamond coating. Usually, Smooth surface coating is used for bend pulley which can increase the service life of pulley, reduce the friction between conveyor belt and pulley cylinder, then the pulley surface will not be corroded by material. Herringbone coating is commonly used for the transmission pulley, since the transmission pulley drives running of conveyor, strong friction will generate on the transmission pulley, so we adopt herringbone coating. Herringbone coating is suitable for the belt conveyor which conveys material in one way,while the diamond coating can be applied to the reversible belt conveyor, which can realize the unloading material bidirectionally.

What Causes the Failure of Belt Conveyor Components and the Solution

Basically, we cannot avoid the failing in work of belt conveyor. The following several points are common phenomenon of belt conveyor components failure analyzed by PK Machinery. We hope to bring you some assistance.
  1. The belt fails in rotating;
The drive pulley belt slips and turns without moving forward after the starting of the belt conveyor motor. The belt failing in rotating is due to the insufficient belt tension, overlong of the belt, inappropriate adjustment of the tension equipment, too frequent start-up and the coal piled up at the end of the belt conveyor.
  1. Belt is easy to break ;
This problem is mainly caused by the large belt joint, poor belt buckle quality, long time use of the belt and the unprofessional belt maintenance. In this case, we should tighten the tension equipment, change high quality belt in time and improve the maintenance level.
  1. Abnormal sound from the reducer
One possible reason is that the abrasive wear of the bearing and gear causes a large gap between them. Or it is because the screw is too loose. In this case, we should replace the bearing, mend the gap and maintain or replace the reducer.
  1. Temperature of the reducer rises too fast
It is due to the over mount of lubricant, poor heat dispersion, speed reducer burying in coal. The lubricant oil amount should be reduced and the coal should be removed to solve this problem.
  1. Lubricant leakage of the reducer
The main reason includes the sealing ring is damaged, the reducer surface is not flat and the bolt is too loose. In this condition, we should change the sealing ring, tighten the connecting surface and the bearing cap bolts.

  1. The roller failed in rotating
If the coal powder falls into the roller sealing ring, it will block the conveyor roller and cause strong stress, then the roller would not rotate and even bend. And thus bring damage to the roller bearing. If this happened, we should replace the roller, lower the height of discharging point and the landing point, or use impact roller at the landing point.

How to Extend the Service Time of Belt Conveyor

  4. High quality of lubrication should be added into all rotating parts of belt conveyor periodically according to the requirement.
  5. Ensure the good work condition of the cleaning device and replace damaged parts in time.
  6. Regularly check the conveyor belt tensity. Prompt tension is needed if the belt is loose. Meanwhile please notice the belt position, timely adjust should be made when it’s off tracking.

Why will Belt Conveyor Pulley Wear?

Belt conveyor is a kind of common conveyor equipment, often used in a variety of material transportation with large throughput, stable performance. In the process of using, pulley may occur wearing, this phenomenon is caused by two reasons:
One reason is that the design gap between roller bracket and pulley is too small, at the same time, building foundation hole vertical distance is less than the pulley support distance.In the process of belt running, overlarge belt tension will result in the change of its traction.Return accretion has not been cleared up, which will form accumulation debris and occur rubber friction.For design factors,as the space between pulley stents and pulley is too small, and the base hole of the vertical distance is less than the pulley support distance, it is not easy to handle timely, which is the main cause of pulley rubber lining wear.

Belt Conveyor Safety Operation Regulation

Belt conveyor is a kind of continuous conveying equipment. Can be widely used for quarry, coal, steel, chemical and other kinds of industries. Operating the belt conveyor safety, not only can make sure the safety of the operator, but also can longer the service life of the belt conveyorPK machinery will introduce the safety operation regulation of the belt conveyor:
  1. The belt conveyor should start without load and should not feed material until it operating regularly. Forbidden feed the material before starting.
  2. Fixed belt conveyor should be installed on fixed foundation. Before the mobile belt conveyor operating officially, wheels should be holdback through triangular wedge or brake. To avoid move during operating, there should be an 1 meter channel between each machine if multi-set belt conveyor operating parallelly.
  3. Before using the belt conveyor, we must check whether all the moving parts, belt buckles and bearing device is normal or not; whether the protective equipment is completely or not. Belt tensioning degree should be adjusted to the appropriate level before starting.
  4. Forbidden stand on the conveyor belt.
  5. If multiply sets belt conveyor connection with each other one by one, we should start the one in discharge end first, then start the other sets according to their order. You can feed the material once all of the equipment operating normally.

Belt running deviation and skid processing method of belt conveyor

  • Running deviation has many reasons, according to the different reasons , we need to different treatment:
  1. Adjust the carrying idler group.
  2. Install the self-aligning roller group.
  3. Tension adjustment, tension adjustment is an important link of belt conveyor running deviation.
  4. Adjust the driving drum and redirection roller position. And the adjustment of the redirection roller driving drum is an important part of the belt running deviation adjustment.
  5. Two-way adjust deviation of belt conveyor.
  • Belt skid treatment method:
  1. Adjustable tension when the belt conveyor in skid trip to increase tension. Sometimes tensioning trip has not enough, however, belt in the permanent deformation , the belt can be cut part to and sulfide.
  2. In the use of nylon belt or EP,tension travel is longer,  when tension trip has not enough, sulfide or increase tension to solve.
  3. Heavy hammer tensioning belt conveyor belt skid can add weight to solve,  added until not skid. But should add not too much, avoid belt  bear too much unnecessary tension and reduce the service life of the belt.

►Brief Introduction
Sidewall belt conveyor is continuous transporting equipment of loose bulk materials such as coke, coal, limestone, sand and gravel. It adopts high quality conveyor belt with corrugated sidewall and horizontal baffle. Sidewall belts are used to convey material up inclines. ►Working Principles
The horizontal loading section a deflection wheel bends the belt into the feeding of the bulk material takes place on a mostly horizontal feed path, where the side wall belt is supported by loading impact idlers. The feeding of the conveyed material can be achieved by direct feeding from a hopper, over a chute, a feeding belt or a feeding pulley. The selection of the optimum feeding station depends on the properties of the bulk material and the belt speed of the vertical conveyor. The upward and downward strands are encased from the bottom to the top. Substructures or support rollers are not necessary in this section.
The vertical section leads over a deflection curve into the horizontal discharge section. The deflection curve is made up of a number of high specification pulleys. These pulleys experience the vectored load of deflecting the belt tension from vertical to horizontal. 
At the drive pulley, the bulk material is discharged and the belt is returned to the back going strand. Depending on the bulk material properties, the drive pulley is followed by a beater wheel for belt cleaning in the return side. The beater is self-driven. Material that fails from the belt goes into the main delivery chute. Lateral deflection wheels turn the belt from the horizontal back to the vertical.

►Selection condition
1. What is the conveying material and its physical characteristics? such as bulk density, feeding size, temperature, mositure content etc.
2. What is the processing capacity of the conveyor?
3. What is the inclination angle of the conveyor?
4. What is the lifting height (distance between inlet and outlet)?
5. What is the length of horizontal section?

►Maintenance
    1.Idlers: These must rotate freely, and be free from any material build-up. Lubrication of all moving parts on a planned basis is essential for dependable operation and minimum maintenance. Component life will be extended by following the manufacturer lubrication instructions.
    2.Pulleys: These should be free from any material build-up. The lagging on the drive pulley should be inspected on a regular basis. If the lagging is in poor condition it may be necessary to apply more tension than is normally necessary to drive the belt resulting in premature wear.
    3.Deflection Gear: Again, these must be free to rotate freely.
    4.Feed Hopper: It is important that this is just free from the top of Sidewalls, any rubber seals around the hopper need checking for wear to prevent excessive dust or spillage.
    5.Tracking: The belt should run without touching any side members or deflection gear, please refer to the section on belt tracking if the belt is running out of alignment.
    6.Good housekeeping: This is necessary for continuous operation and low maintenance. Spillage and build-up of material can eventually cause the idlers to stop rotating and an accumulation of lumpy material can cause belt damage.

Check: The belt edges, Sidewalls, Cleats and the belt splice need to be checked on a periodic basis for wear or separation. Any minor areas of damage should be repaired as soon as is possible.
